Rain Garden at Headquarters DONE

Four years after we moved into our new place the rainscaping is finally done! What’s here:

• Dry creek style rain garden meandering through the front yard
• Native trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges, and wildflowers
• A flagstone walkway & seating area
• 500 litre rainwater cistern for the backyard
• A gable end over the front porch
• Updated Roof, Soffit, Fascia, and Eavestroughs

I’ll likely be hosting tours of the ground next year so keep an eye out for that. In the meantime everything you need to create your own rain garden can be found in my book THE MODERN RAIN GARDEN: SCRAPE, SHAPE, AND PLANT.

Home Exterior Upgrades

Peace of Mind Exteriors has been looking after AVESI customers for the last couple years. They did all the work on my house this past year and they’re available for your place as well. I made the decision to upgrade the exterior trimmings because aluminum prices keep going up – so waiting will just cost me more money in the long run.

ALSO – the eavestroughs were leaking in the back corner and when we took the fascia capping off the underlying wood fascia board was rotten. So, I was happy to replace the rotting wood.

Native Plant Fair

Happening tomorrow at one of my favourite places in the city. If you've been to this church you know the grounds are an incredible example of gardening with native Carolinian ecology.

There will be local environmentally focused vendors, native plants for sale, and a talk by Sean James at 12:30.
